What is hospice care?

 

Hospice care focuses on the quality of life for individuals who are terminally ill. It provides comfort, support, and pain management to help patients and their families cope with the end-of-life process. 


Who is eligible for hospice care? 


Hospice care is available to individuals who have been diagnosed with a terminal illness and have a life expectancy of six months or less. 


What services are provided by hospice care? 


Hospice care provides a wide range of services, including pain management, symptom control, emotional support, spiritual care, and counseling. Hospice teams typically include doctors, nurses, social workers, spiritual care & bereavement counselors, and volunteers who work together to provide comprehensive care to patients and their families. 

 


Where are hospice services provided? 


Hospice services can be provided in various locations. 


The most common are:

Nursing Home
Assisted Living
Hospital (General Inpatient Care  
Personal Care Home
